This guidebook was valuable for my trip to Beijing and Shanghai for sights. Wish that there were more suggestions on places to eat. For lodging I used book.com and it was amazing. Did not expect international destinations and this guidebook was not the best source for lodging. However it includes all of China and offers many valuable tips. The map to the Beijing subway was very valuable as well as tips to the Beijing and Shanghai airports. Haven't yet gone to China so can't say anything about accuracy yet, but lacks basic consistency in editing and basic facts. For example, when talking about where a place is in relation to another place, sometimes says, for example, "22 km NW of Xi'an." But often just says "22km from Xi'an" with no hint of direction, even though that would just be adding 2 or 3 more characters. Similarly, but very consistently, for hikes, the book always gives the distance in Km, but NEVER gives the altitude gain, even when the altitude gain is a bigger factor than the distance! Basic fail in standard guidebook info. I think these people don't hike much.
